Calzone vs Panuozzo: Which Royal Pizza Order Should You Choose?
Sometimes you want the flavours of pizza in a different form. A calzone wraps its filling inside folded dough; a panuozzo is a pizza sandwich with filling between bread. Both give you another way to enjoy a savoury meal, but the way you eat them—and the combinations on our menu—make them different choices.
At Royal Pizza, you can choose from four calzones and three panuozzo sandwiches. Here is a practical guide to the current fillings, whether you are choosing lunch, planning dinner or trying something new alongside a shared pizza.
The difference is in the format
A calzone is enclosed, so you cut or bite through the baked dough to reach the filling. It suits you if you like the idea of cheese, sauce and toppings together inside one folded parcel. A panuozzo has the familiar format of a sandwich, with its filling held between two sides of bread.
If you enjoy a knife-and-fork meal, a calzone is an easy choice. If you are in the mood for a sandwich, look at the panuozzo range. The filling matters just as much as the format, so choose the sauce and toppings you actually want rather than treating either as a smaller substitute for pizza.
Calzone choices: pepperoni, supreme, spinach or pesto chicken
The Classic Pepperoni Calzone keeps things focused with mozzarella, tomato sauce and pepperoni. It is a straightforward option for someone whose usual pizza order starts with pepperoni.
The Supreme Royal Calzone adds more variety: mozzarella, tomato sauce, pepperoni, ham, sausages, onions, bell pepper and olives. Choose it when you want several meat and vegetable toppings together rather than one main filling.
For spinach and cheese, the Spinach & Feta Cheese Calzone combines mozzarella, crumbled feta, fresh spinach, onion and garlic oil. The Pesto Chicken Calzone takes another route, with mozzarella, carbonara cream, chicken, mushrooms and pesto.
Those last two options also help you choose by sauce: garlic oil with spinach and feta, or a cream-and-pesto combination with chicken. If you have dietary requirements, ask the branch to confirm ingredients and preparation before you order.
Panuozzo choices: BBQ chicken, pesto chicken or rib eye
The BBQ Chicken Cheese Panuozzo includes mozzarella, chicken, iceberg lettuce, bell pepper, BBQ sauce, garlic sauce and onion. It is the sandwich to consider when BBQ sauce is the flavour you are craving.
The Chicken Garlic and Pesto Panuozzo combines carbonara sauce, mozzarella, chicken, pesto, mushrooms, olives and rocket. It shares some ingredients with the pesto chicken calzone, but adds olives and rocket in a sandwich format.
For a steak option, the Rib Eye Steak and Feta Cheese Panuozzo features rib eye steak, feta cheese, rocket, cherry tomatoes, onion and bell pepper. It is a useful alternative when you want steak and vegetables instead of a chicken filling.
